According to Dr. Jacobson’s report published in Journal of Applied Ergonomics, a magazine specialized in ergonomics, to sleep in a new mattress can improve night sleep and reduce physical pains during the day. In fact, sleeping in a new bed, the people polled reported significant improvements in:

– Back pain (62,8%)

– Shoulders pain: (62,4%)

– Back stiffness: (58,4%)

– Sleep quality: (64,4%), and

– Sleeping comfort: (69,6%).

“As it happens with your favorite sport shoes, your mattress may feel much comfortable after having lost its ability to give your body the comfort and support it needs” said Karin Dillner, “and the same way we need a new sports equipment, we also need the equipment to sleep good at night and the most important, a good quality mattress.”

The BSC (organism dedicated to educating public about the importance of sleep to be in good health and high quality of life, and about the value of the sleep system and of the environment to achieve a good night sleep) recommends consumers to evaluate their mattress asking themselves four basic questions to determinate if it is time to change it for a better one:

– Is the mattress between five and seven years old?

– Do you wake up with back stiffness, numbness, nuisances and pains?

– Do you sleep better when you don’t sleep in your bed (in a hotel, for example)?

– Does your mattress show signs of use (shapes, spots, etc)?
