Latex mattress: how to buy the best one?

Are you going to buy a latex mattress?

In the 100% latex mattresses, we can find very different qualities in composition, and in cover finish. In the latex mattress shops we are told that the mattresses are 100% latex, so they can obtain more sales, but not many are certified to be 100% pure latex.

There are different ways to make 100% latex:

In one side, there is the natural manufacture (pure latex mattresses), in which only natural materials are used (Rubber Tree resin) and on the other side, there is artificial manufacture in which synthesized components are used (petroleum, etc.)

1) Characteristics of the latex mattresses

–   Some models have seven independent posture zones, others have only five, there are even some that only have the lumbar zone differentiated.

–   It’s a natural material and hypoallergenic. It is not firm and doesn’t transpire.

–    The latex mattress composition is usually made of 80% rubber and 20% synthetic. If it is 100% petroleum, it is not latex.

–   It is not recommended to put it on any bed base. It needs a slat type foundation base, to make it firm. The mattresses have to be rotated every 25 days.

–   Manufacturers of the latex market, recommend an intermediate density, since the superior ones, that is more than 80 kilograms/m3, tend to become stiff after a few years.

2)  Advantages and recommendations of latex mattresses

–  Hygienic and ventilated

–  High elasticity conserving comfort

–  It does not lose its shape (when wringed the mattress compresses its self without loosing its shape.

–  Ozone and oxygen damage it. Keep out of air and sun.

–  Sensible to tears, take precautions while handling, whenever possible put its protection cover on.

–  If latex gets wet, need always to get dried with hot air.
